The global survey of physicists

In order to develop a broader picture of the status of physicists across the globe the 2009 Global Survey of Physicists is ready to complete on the web address www.aipsurveys.org/global Global Survey of Physicists has been developed by staff at the American Institute of Physics in conjunction with International Union of Pure and Applied Physics conferences on women in physics, partially funded by a grant from the Luce Foundation. Responses to this survey are anonymous. Individual level information will not be shared or made available

Three women scientists from sciences won 2009 Nobel Prize!

Prof Ada E. Yonath from Israel Weizmann Institute of Science won 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

BASNET is making boast of the fact that Prof. Ada E. Yonath gave a plenary lecture in EPWS conference held 2008 in Vilnius.

Prof. Elizabeth H. Blackburn from University of California (USA) and prof. Carol W. Greider from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (USA) won 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

The Assembly and Annual Conference
“Scientific Culture, Communication, Gender – An Innovative Challenge for Women Scientists”

25-26 June 2009 the Assembly and Annual Conference entitled “Scientific Culture, Communication, Gender – An Innovative Challenge for Women Scientists” of European Platform of Women Scientists (EPWS) in collaboration with Belgian Women in Science BeWiSe was held in Brussels. During the poster session BASNET Forumas association presented the poster devoted to BASNET post project activities.
Assembly re-elected new EPWS executive committee and Board of Administration. President of BASNET Forumas Dalia Šatkovskienė has been re-elected to continue her term on the EPWS Board of Administration. In view of the impending close-down of the EPWS Secretariat in Brussels, as a result of the current financial situation of the Platform, the delegates of the EPWS General Assembly 2009 approved a resolution. BASNET partners are invited to join the action pointed to support EPWS by signing the resolution available on the EPWS web site www.epws.org.

Annual Conference “Women Shaping Science”

5th June – 7th June 2008 the Annual Conference “Women Shaping Science” took place in Vilnius, Lithuania. It was organized in collaboration with BASNET. It provided a vibrant forum for sharing experiences and knowledge, assessing the current climate for women scientists and why and how that can and must be improved. IUPAP/UNESCO TRAVEL GRANTS FOR 2007

IUPAP Working Group on Women in Physics Travel Grants Supporting Women in Physics in Developing Countries has received funding to launch a sixth round of the IUPAP program to fund the attendance of women from developing and eastern European countries at regional conferences and schools this fall. We expect to be able to fund 20 women up to a maximum of $700 each.

According to scheduled in the contract plans to keep the close contacts with WIR (Women in Industrial Research) initiative Coordinator of the project as well as representatives of Polish partners took part in the European Conference "Re-searching Women in Science and Technology" Vienna 15 and 16 May 2006.
